LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Identify the symbols, abbreviations, and designations used on substation prints
  • Read and interpret conceptual diagrams, including power one-line diagrams and relay one-line diagrams
  • Read and interpret elementary diagrams, including three-line AC schematics and DC schematics
  • Learn how to read and interpret wiring diagrams, as well as how to locate equipment and trace circuits between wiring diagrams, interconnection diagrams, front view diagrams, and elementary diagrams

LEARNING EXPERIENCE

This online instructor-led course will provide students with experience interpreting different types of substation prints used on work projects. Classes will run for five hours each day over three days.

In addition, students are required to complete web-based trainings before class begins. Instructors will be available for one-on-one sessions after class hours to assist students with course topics. Students are provided with drawings and schematics to conceptualize and analyze a substation and its components.

PREREQUISITES

  • A basic understanding of electrical power system operation and equipment commonly found in substations
