WINDSOR, Conn. – Today TRC Companies (“TRC”), celebrates 10 years of service in the United Kingdom. TRC first planted roots in the UK in 2012 with the opening of its London office. Today the group has expanded to three other UK offices in Bristol, Glasgow, and Manchester. TRC is a global firm providing a range of environmental services to the private equity, property, corporate and finance sectors.
In 2013 the UK business grew from a small Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) business to add contaminated land expertise with the hire of Adam Sokolowski, Technical Director, “I saw an opportunity to create something new in the UK market. TRC had over 50 years of pedigree in the US but was unknown in the UK. We wanted to bring that depth of expertise to the UK, whilst creating a commercially focused and entrepreneurial consulting practice.”
“The London business was opened to serve the increasing demands of our private equity clients,” said William Nitch-Smith, Director of the UK business. “Having a presence in the UK has meant that we can better serve our clients across the UK, Europe and globally through our expert in-house advisors and our consulting partner network”. The TAS team specializes in providing environment, safety and ESG due diligence support to private equity, corporate and financial institutions. Over the years the TAS team has supported a variety of transactions in the chemicals, food and beverage, manufacturing and real estate sectors.
Moving forward TRC UK is focused on the growth of their Air Quality and Acoustics practices. These technical experts support planning and design for property development and aid clients in compliance and nuisance. The team has been called upon to examine nuisance odor issues from industrial complexes and noise impacts associated with construction and remediation projects.
The geotechnical practice is predicted to grow substantially in coming years. This year the business achieved a ranking position of 42nd in the annual Ground Engineering list of geotechnical consultants by turnover in the UK. “We’re proud of this initial recognition, but this is the start of our journey and we are keen to build on this in future years and become a consultant of choice for the development sector” said Christos Botsialas, Technical Director – Geotechnical.
The recent hire of David Scott and his team in Glasgow builds upon our strength in corporate services, supporting blue-chip clients on large transactions globally, and supporting the acquisition integration process post-transaction with remediation, permitting and compliance expertise.
The next step in TRC UK’s growth is continuing to be a competitive employer of choice. Stephanie Nichols, Associate Director of Geoenvironmental, plays a leading role in TRC’s Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Network. “The D&I Network along with the GROW (Women’s) Network creates a strong workplace culture, provides opportunities for our employees to progress and also ensures we attract the best quality candidates to work for us,” said Nichols. “Others in the business are working on intern programs and we have had staff exchange between the US and UK, which creates a strong link to our global colleagues.”
